PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE)

Our aim, at ETSS Wicklow PE Department, is to promote a lifelong love and appreciation of sport and physical activity and to develop a positive attitude and understanding of what it is to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Our Physical Education program creates opportunities for all students to build social skills such as leadership and cooperative teamwork skills. We put an emphasis on the development of various movement skills through a variety of physical activities that are inclusive of all students and meeting their individual needs.

Physical Education at ETSS Wicklow is offered as a Short Course to all students where lessons are structured in line with the National Curriculum for Physical Education Syllabus.  Our students are taught through a structured framework where they are offered a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages them to learn and develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of both theory and practice in Physical Education. The course is based around four strands, each one focusing on learning in different activity areas:

  1. Games
  2. Individual & Team Challenges
  3. Dance & Gymnastics
  4. Physical Activity for Health & Wellbeing

The six Junior Cycle Wellbeing indicators – Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected and Aware - are embedded in our PE curriculum and are central to our lesson planning.

With our fantastic location by the Wicklow Mountains and just 2km to the sea, we put a strong emphasis on outdoor adventure activities such as mountain biking, water sports, orienteering and hiking.

Students are encouraged and given opportunities to experience a range of outdoor adventurous activities here at ETSS Wicklow.
