ART (TY)

The aim of Transition Year Art will be to develop skills in art, craft and design by providing various creative and innovative opportunities throughout Transition Year. Our aim is to develop knowledge and skills in the areas of art, craft and design in an engaging and active way.
Students will develop skills such as critical thinking, manipulation of various materials, general creativity and experimentation, problem solving and risk-taking, as well as working as part of a team and learning how to give and take constructive criticism. Studying Art in Transition Year will also give students the opportunity to trial the subject in advance of choosing subjects for Senior Cycle. The Transition Year Art programme gives students a chance to develop their artistic skills in a stress-free environment, free from the pressure of examinations.
The programme is in development at present and is likely to include some of the following elements, depending on the interests of the students:
  • Printmaking
  • Textiles
  • Sculpture
