LEAVING CERTIFICATE

Leaving Certificate at ETSS Wicklow

The Leaving Certificate Programme is a two year course in which students normally choose six to eight subjects from the list of subjects available on the curriculum.

This course provides students with a broad and balanced education while also offering a chance to work towards particular higher education and career options by selecting specialist subjects. In general, students take a minimum of five subjects (usually more - six or seven) for the Leaving Certificate Examination, one of which must be Irish. Subjects are normally studied at either Ordinary or Higher Level. Two subjects, Irish and Mathematics, can be studied at Foundation Level.

This year marks an exciting milestone for our school as our current group of 6th-year students becomes the first to sit the Leaving Certificate. At ETSS Wicklow, we pride ourselves on providing a wide range of subjects to ensure every student has the opportunity to explore their strengths and interests.

Our students have access to a broad array of core subjects and electives, including:

  • Core Subjects:
    English | Mathematics | Irish

  • Science:
Biology | Chemistry | Physics | Computer Science

  • Humanities:
Geography | History | Climate Action & Sustainable Development

  • Languages:
    French | Spanish

  • Economics:
    Business | Accounting

  • Arts:
Music | Home Economics | Art

In addition to these subjects, the State Examinations Commission will provide examinations in any recognised language of the European Union, where the status of the applicant/candidate is seen as appropriate.

As our school continues to grow and develop, we have been able to expand the subjects available to our senior cycle students. Our second group of Leaving Cert students has already begun studying newly introduced subjects, such as Computer Science.

Furthermore, we are proud to be one of only 44 schools in the country offering the pioneering subject Climate Action and Sustainable Development. This reflects our commitment to providing a forward-thinking, dynamic curriculum that equips our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.

At ETSS Wicklow, we are committed to broadening our students' horizons and will continue to introduce new subjects that prepare them for future challenges and opportunities.
